2010 Snowsfest Winners
Cardboard Sled Derby
Results for the cardboard sled derby during Snowsfest are listed below.
Mickail Bickham took first place in the six years of age and younger division with the sled “Yamaha.”
Silas Dunn’s “Checker Madness” placed first is the seven-to-12 year-old division.
In the 12-and-older division, Randy Dunn came in first with “Checker Madness.”
Jack Lindberg took first for best decorated sled with “Rubiks Cube.” The best cardboard sled award went to Demin Diehl with “Monster.”
Fishing Contest
The fishing contest was sponsored by Islands Wildlife and the Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce. Results are listed below. Sixty people registered for the event and 17 fish were measured.
In the adult division, Richard Carr and John Thompson tied for first place with a 14-1/8-inch perch. Each won a $75 cash prize. Annette Winberg caught a 13-15/16-inch perch to take third place and the $25 cash prize.
Ryan King’s 27-5/8 inch pike took first place and $100. Ruben Sherlund caught a 25-1/4-inch pike for second place and $50. Joe Patton’s pike measuring 24-1/8 inches was the third place winner for $25.
Farren Reo won the Most Measured Fish and $25.
In the youth division, Mike Haske took first place with a 10-3/4-inch perch for $50. Mr. Haske also won smallest measured fish for the $10 cash prize.
Chase Massey took home $50 for his first place pike measuring 25-1/2 inches in length. Mr. Massey also won smallest measured fish for the $10 cash prize.
Ice Hole Golf Scramble
Sixteen two-man teams participated in the nine-hole golf scramble on Hessel Bay.
In the men’s division, Duncan Martin and Tom Causley took first place with a score of 35. They were followed by Chip Autore and Jeff Autore in second, and Dana Lofdahl and Keith Izzard.
In the mixed division, Andy Brown and Lora Brown came in first with a score of 36. Coming in second was the team of Dave Masse and Shannon Thon.
In the women’s division, first-place winners were Kim Lofdahl and Michelle Bryant with a score of 42. Lisa Merkel and Shelley MacLaren came in second.
Pub Shuffle Competition and Costume Contest
Runway Bar was voted the winner for the best decorations, best bartenders, and best themed drink.
Matt Sharp won the best costume for the men’s division and the “Clue” girls, Linda Sherlund, Joanne Baker, Debbie Beukema, Robin Hakola, Pauline Mitchell, Pam Thompson, Michelle Walk, and Kathy Tassier, won the women’s division best costume.
2010 Decorating Contest
For the Snow Buddies, First National Bank took first, Arfstom’s Pharmacy came in second, and Taylor Lumber Company was third.
For the Off Ice Statue, Runaway Bar, Autore Oil Company, and Hessel Grocery were the first, second, and third place winners, respectively.
In the On Ice Statues division, Islands Insurance Center was first, followed by Tim LaJoice in second.
2010 Poker Run
Tony Colangelo came in first place, followed by Denny Rye in second, and DeeDee Bickham in third.
The award for the worst hand went to Diane Hamburg.
2010 Chili Cook-Off
Northwoods Restoration and Rustic Decor was the winner of a chili cook-off in the commercial division. Greg Wagner of Cedarville was the cook.
Individual winners are Larry and Stephanie Gakle of Hessel and Saline in first, Devon Brooks of Cedarville in second, and Maryann Hansen of Cedarville in third.
Snowshoe Hare Race
Lee Kanitz came in first with a time of 9 minutes and 36 seconds, followed by his son, Tyler Kanitz, with a time of 12 minutes and 13 seconds. Bob Iddings took third place with a time of 20 minutes and 51 seconds.
Dog Show “Star,” owned by Jordan Huskey, won best dressed.
“Belle,” owned by Kirk Smith, took best trick.
Lilli Freel’s dog “Aspen” won the best obstacle course performance.
“Atlas” was the best behaved, owned by Morgan Juncay.
Winner of a gift basket raffle was “Sam,” owned by Kayla Merchberger.
