Stanley ‘Stosh’ Gierlaszynski

Stanley Gierlaszynski Stanley Gierlaszynski Stanley “Stosh” Gierlaszynski, 86, of St. Ignace and Clearwater, Florida, was a World War II veteran and a longtime businessman in St. Ignace. Mr. Gierlaszynski was one of the founding members of the St. Ignace Tourism Association. He died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at home after complications from surgery.

He was born in Detroit August 8, 1923, to Stanley and Julia Gierlaszynski February 19, 1949.

He married Frances Budka in Detroit, February 19, 1949, and this year they would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

Mr. Gierlaszynski owned and operated Chesterfield Mason Contractors in Detroit for more than 20 years. When he sold the business, he served as president of the Contractors Union for a year before moving to St. Ignace. He built the Trade Winds Motel in 1960 and operated it for 13 years before going on to buy the old Belle Isle Restaurant in 1976. Mr. Gierlaszynski named it The Galley Restaurant, and it is operated by his son, Stanley Gierlaszynski. In 1986, he bought the Admiral’s Table in Mackinaw City that is operated by his daughter, Pam Gierlaszynski.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; one son, Stanley Gierlaszynski of St. Ignace and Thailand; four daughters and their families, Pam Gierlaszynski of St. Ignace, Annie Jones of Lansing, Denise Whitta of Los Angeles, California, and Sue and Seth Patterson of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren, Greg and Patrice Gustafson of Mackinaw City, Tim and Adam Fenlon, both of Traverse City, Stephanie and Jerry Jones of Lansing, Jamie and James Summers of Chicago, Illinois, and Tyler Fisk of Clearwater, Florida, and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gierlaszynski was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Chester Gierlaszynski, and one grandson, Cory Gustafson.

A burial service will take place in the spring in St. Ignace. Details will be announced at a later date.
