Brevort

Joe and Sharon Chalmers have returned home from vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.They met their daughter, Lisa Chalmers, and her friends at the Iguana Hotel and Resort.The weather was good, but Joe and Sharon are happy to be back in Brevort.

Pega Kennedy was honored at a surprise 60th birthday party Saturday, February 20. The festive affair was hosted by Pega’s husband, John, at the Hendricks Town Hall in Epoufette. Many friends, neighbors, and relatives enjoyed an evening out with good food.

Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey called this past week from Juneau, Alaska, congratulating the Swedish-American community on receiving the Michigan Heritage Award. Pastor Tari was one of many who was instrumental in the community receiving this honor.

Dottie Glashaw attended the Red Hat Society meeting Thursday, February 18, at the home of Brenda Frey. Ten ladies shared news and ideas and enjoyed a light supper. The next meeting will be Saturday, March 27, with the location to be announced.

It was a wonderful day for the third annual U.P. Pond Hockey Tournament in St. Ignace Saturday, February 20. Gustafson’s Smoked Fish of Brevort won the championship again this year. Congratulations to the team and its sponsors, Tom and Joyce Gustafson and Mike and Lara Gustafson.

Tom Coffey was a Monday morning visitor at our home on Fisherman’s Drive.

Cathy Peters of Saginaw called Pega Kennedy this past weekend to wish her a happy birthday. Pega’s son, Dan Becker, called from Hong Kong to convey his birthday greetings.

There is a wildlife sighting to report. The people at the White Tail Resort were being observed by a red fox last weekend. He would put his nose right up to the door to take a look at what was going on. He then jumped on Susie Nesberg’s car hood. After a time he meandered into to the woods.

When Jamica Diamond let her three dogs out Saturday evening, they charged headfirst into a coyote that had sneaked through the fence around the pen. The dogs were excited, and the coyote rapidly left the premises with much barking urging him on his way.

Dave and I visited with Rick and Gloria Weber at their Big Brevort Lake home Sunday afternoon, February 21.

Jack and Thora Shepard were in Traverse City Monday, February 22.

Get well wishes to Kathy Christopher of Macomb, who recently had surgery on both feet.

Happy birthday to Brian Rose March 2, Joey Berry March 5, and Lynn Yoder March 6.

Pastor George Kaiser is at his favorite fishing place in Canada. We hope he has good luck. Pastor Paul Raappanna and Orv Kabot are serving Trinity and Zion of St. Ignace until Pastor Kaiser returns Friday, March 12.
