Rudyard Lions Club Serves Community

The Rudyard Lions Club has been active for 56 years. Its current officers are President Barry Davis, First Vice President Road Kauppila, Treasurer Joe Andary, and Secretary Gary Davis, all of Rudyard. In addition to Tom Piippo's project to groom the ski trails, the Rudyard Lions Club hosts several events throughout the year benefiting local causes.

Saturday, March 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. the Lions will host a Texas Hold'em Fixed Limit cash game at Joe's Bar and Grill in Rudyard. Proceeds will benefit the Rudyard High School Junior Varsity softball and baseball programs.

The annual Lions Club pancake supper will be Wednesday, April 21, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rudyard High School Cafeteria. Money raised from the event will be divided between the Bay Cliff Health Camp and Leader Dogs for the Blind programs.

A car show will be held at the Rudyard Community Center Saturday, July 24, during the Rudyard Summerfest. Money raised will benefit the Rudyard Township Park. Sunday, July 25, at 9 a.m. the Lions will hold their Summerfest 5k and Triathlon. A 5k run, 26k bicycle event, and 0.5k swim will be planned.

The Lions Club also sponsors the American Red Cross blood drive in Rudyard four times a year. The next blood drive is Friday, March 19, at the Rudyard Community Center.

The Lions Club meets the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. at the St. James Lutheran Church on 11112 Third Street in Rudyard. Anyone interested in joining the Lions Club may contact a member or call Mr. Davis at 478-5244.
