Engadine Consolidated Schools
March is reading month. This year, our theme is “Reading is Big Time Fun.” Most of our activities will have a circus theme. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are encouraged to read to help their class earn paper balloons for their classroom clown to hold.
Congratulations to Michael Klobucher, son of Michael and Rae Marie Klobucher, and Joseph Swider, son of Mark Swider and Ruth MacLeod. These two young men are our valedictorians for the Class of 2010. Also, congratulations to Kayla Miller, daughter of Tim and Kathy Miller. She is this year’s salutatorian. These students exhibit excellent study habits, have high expectations for themselves, and are able to prioritize their time.
Kudos to Jeremiah Clark and the school bands, who traveled to Brimley last week for Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Festival. The high school band received a rating of 1, and the junior high band received a rating of 2. We are so proud of our music program.
Anyone interested in supporting the Save Our Schools, Students and State (SOS) movement, there will be a rally in Lansing Wednesday, March 10. Please voice your opinion by contacting your legislators, and urging them to take action and solve the budget problems. Legislators need to restructure state and K-12 revenues, and provide stability in the school budgets. Schools are making significant cuts in staffing and programming, staff have made concessions in insurances, and fewer people are doing more with less. For more information, call me at (906) 477-6313 or go to www.sosmichigan.org.
Reminder: Parent/Teacher conferences will be Thursday, March 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
