Neil Powers
Neil W. Powers, 76, of San Marcos, California, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at Hospice House of San Marcos.
He was born November 28, 1933, in Hawks to Evart and Mildred (nee Caldwell) Powers of St. Ignace.
Mr. Powers was graduated from LaSalle High School in 1952 and entered the United States Navy, serving 22.5 years. He was an engineer on submarines during the Korean War, and later temporarily transferred to the United States Marines during the Vietnam War as an air conditioning and refrigeration specialist at medical facilities. He served two separate tours in Da Nang. As he was leaving his first tour, he met his brother, Clinton, who was arriving there as a medical corpsman.
Mr. Powers is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol; three children, Carrie, Theresa, and Jack; one grandson; two sisters and their families, Phyllis and Joel Brown of Sulpher, Oklahoma, and Marilou Sayles of East Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Widmer, Ronald, and Clinton, and two sisters, Ardis Pearson, and Barbara Beaudoin.
Military services were conducted by the United States Navy and burial was at sea.
