Junior Nicole Elmblad recorded a triple double with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists and added six steals to help lift the St. Ignace Saints to an 80-22 nonconference home win over the Cedarville Trojans Tuesday, February 23.
LaSalle High School honored the parents of the varsity players. The senior players, Chelsea Swope, Samantha Radecki, Kristen Olsen, Mallory LaLonde, Katy LaTour, and Emily Hepker, were recognized for their efforts this season.
St. Ignace opened the game with a 23-4 lead after the first eight minutes and increased the advantage to 48-16 with a 25-12 in the second quarter.
Elmblad scored 15 first-half points and Grace Wheeler added 13 for the Saints, while Jillian Collins scored seven for the Trojans.
Callie Smith Pickford The Saints completed the contest with a 32-6 advantage in the second half to post the win.

Saints Down Trojans In JV Match-up
The St. Ignace Saints defeated the Cedarville Trojans 41-22 in the junior varsity game Tuesday, February 23.

Panthers Capture EUPC Hoops Crown With Win Over Bays
The Pickford Panthers captured the girls Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (EUPC) championship with a 57-44 road win over the Brimley Bays Thursday, February 25.
Defense wins championships and the effort put together by the Panthers was the key to their EUPC crown.
"The relentless pressure by senior Callie Smith on the Bays, holding top scorer Jessica Graham to five points, was one huge difference," said Panthers Coach Paul Griffin. "Callie gets our opponent’s best offensive player and takes pride on her defense and is a tough player. She took a blow to her nose ... [but] she returned and finished out the game."
Grace DeYoung Rudyard Pickford led 10-7 after the first eight minutes before the Bays held a 10-8 scoring edge in the second quarter to cut the Panthers lead to 18-17 at halftime.
"We were more patient in the second half and used the extra pass to improve our offense and received special playing time from Kacie Brown and Abbie Andrzejak," added the Pickford coach.
Pickford outscored Brimley 39-27 in the second half that included 17-14 in the third quarter and 22-13 in the final eight minutes.

Bays Down Indians In Non-League Game
The Brimley Bays held a threepoint halftime lead before outscoring the Newberry Indians 24-11 in the second half to post a 67-51 non-conference road win Tuesday, February 23.

Coach Griffin had the girls and their parents sign a “Panthers Promise” note before the season that said the team would show respect, study hard, take a positive role, and practice hard, as their goals for the year. After the game at Brimley, the coach presented the girls with their notes, so each player could cross off the first goal listed: To win the conference championship.
Raiders Snap EUPC Losing Streak With Win Over Trojans
The DeTour Raiders snapped an Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (EUPC) 21-game losing streak with a 51-48 home deci- sion over the Cedarville Trojans Thursday, February 25.
The last league win for the Raiders came against Engadine November 3, 2006.
Cedarville, 2-6 in the EUPC and 5-15 on the season, led 13-9 after the first eight minutes before DeTour, 1-7 in the league and 8-12 overall, held
21-16 advantage in the second quarter to take a 30-29-scoring edge into halftime.
The Trojans took a 40-35 lead into the final eight minutes with a 11-5 advantage in the third quarter, but the Raiders outscored Cedarville 16-8 in the final eight minutes to post the conference win.
Cedarville outscored DeTour 44-39 from the field and the Raiders held a 12-4 advantage from the free throw line.

Bulldogs Sting Hornets In Non-League Match-up
The trio of Emily Jeffreys, Leah Jarvie, and Rebecca Malaski combined for 50 points to lead the Rudyard Bulldogs to a 59-50 nonconference road win over the Pellston Hornets Tuesday, February 23.
In the battle between the Straits Area Conference Bulldogs and the Ski Valley Conference Hornets, Rudyard took a 15-10 lead after the first eight minutes and built the margin to 29-18 at halftime with a 14-8 advantage in the second quarter. The Bulldogs outscored the Hornets 30-24 in the second half to post the win.
Bulldogs remaining statistics: Abbie LaPointe, three points; Grace DeYoung and Lindsie LaPointe, two points; Crystal Brownlee and Brittany Brown, one point.
Shorthanded Eagles Fall to Cougars
The Engadine Eagles, who have played shorthanded with just six players, closed out the regular season with a 56- 30 home nonconference setback at the hands of the Superior Central Cougars Thursday, February 25.
The Eagles completed the season with an 11-9 overall record trailed 31-16 at halftime and were outscored 25-14 in the second half.
