Spring is really on its way. Kate TerHaar mentioned that Carl had seen pussy willows, and Betty and Bill Kish have seen swans plus a young buck in their yard. Kate also saw seagulls last week flying through Cedarville Bay – not to mention the unseasonably warm weather we’ve had recently.

While Carl was walking their dog, Copper, along the ice at Bush Bay, he saw a big wolf not too far away. He decided then that they should get off the ice. There have been other reports of wolves near Cedarville, and fox have been seen in our front yard on a couple of occasions. Isn’t it fun to live in a place where we see so much wildlife?

Ron Nordquist is trying to gather names and addresses from the Cedarville High School class of 1950 for a class reunion Sunday, July 4. He also is requesting names and addresses for the young men who were on the very first football team for a 60th reunion this summer. If anyone can provide any names or addresses, please send them to me at either the phone or email address above, or call Ron at (906) 484-2334.

Many patterns and books have been donated and are located in the “put and take” file at the library. Quilt pattern and book donations will welcome additions to this file.

Rebecca Bickham and Lauren Izzard, students at the University of Michigan, are both home for the last half of their spring break. They spent the first half in Palm Springs, California, enjoying some warm sunshine. Rebecca is the daughter of Gerald and DeeDee Bickham of Hessel, and Lauren is the daughter of Ken and Joanna Izzard of Cedarville.

This week, I received a phone call from a friend of long ago in Grand Rapids. This friend, Louise Zevalkink, called this week, recalling so many memories of long ago. We were friends when we were in our late teens and had lost touch. It was wonderful to hear from her. Through the efforts of Heidi Janz, whose number she called by mistake, we were able to get in touch.

There are lots of ice shanties on Government and Muskie Bays, and some of them are fancy indeed. Some have satellite dishes, one is painted maize and blue, several anglers bring laptops to watch movies while they fish, and most have grills so the fishermen won’t go hungry. It’s quite a sight to see the winter “shanty towns” on the ice.

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 14, when we spring ahead for one more hour of daylight in the evening. Don’t forget to set your clocks this weekend.
