The Kinross Recreation Center will have an Easter Bunny brunch Saturday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $2.50 for children age six through 12 and $3.50 for ages 13 and older. There is no charge for children age five and younger. Children will be able to visit with the Easter Bunny.

The Rudyard Easter breakfast is Saturday, April 3, at 10 a.m. at the Rudyard Township Hall. There will be many crafts and an Easter egg hunt.

There will be a blood drive Friday, March 19, from noon to 5:45 p.m. at Rudyard Township Hall. Cheri Fischer will be among those donating time for this cause.

Bob and Bernadette McDowell just returned from a cruise to Jamaica. It was a five-night cruise from Miami to Jamaica. When Bob and Bernadette stopped in Jamaica, they went to Dons Falls, and while on the cruise watched many entertaining shows. Bob attended the National Hay Association board meeting. Because of rough weather, they didn’t get to see many things off the boat, but did get to visit Key West.

(Photograph courtesy of Michelle VanSloten) A funeral was held in Bay City for former Rudyard resident Floyd Smith. He married Grace Anderson. He leaves behind four sons, a sister, Ruby MacDonald, and June Uponen.

There will be a public meeting Tuesday, March 23, for planning and zoning. Everyone interested in the proposed windmills and what the planning commission plans to do may attend this meeting.

Floyd Lamoreaux will be the speaker for the Thursday, March 11, meeting of the Rudyard Historical Society. A native of Simmons Settlement (he still lives in the house where he was born), and a descendant of the original large Simmons family who moved from Minnesota to settle in the Upper Peninsula, Mr. Lamoreaux will tell about the history of the Simmons family and SimmonsSettlement. A natural storyteller, he will also will play guitar and sing country music. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Rudyard Community Center.

Last month we had a wonderful meeting with Paul Rossi. He told of his experiences filming birds, especially during migration. He showed beautiful photographs of the great variety of birds that pass through this area. About 50 people attended and asked Mr. Rossi questions about his work. We learned about the unusual birds that migrate through here or that live here yeararound. Many attending said they had never seen these species.
