Park Named in Mackinaw City
The unnamed pocket park at the end of Depeyster Street in Mackinaw City was officially named Mackinaw Maritime Park by the Village Council Friday, March 5.
Dawn Edwards, executive director of the Mackinaw City Chamber of Commerce, asked for the name change, saying the park overlooks the area where the S.S. Cedarville sank and is also near a sign that describes weather and maritime information. With the creation of the upcoming Mackinaw Maritime Festival, it is a great opportunity to put a name on the park, she said.
Council also approved a sign for the park, to cost about $3,000.
