Road Commission Seeks Bids for Cedarville Garage
The garage on State Street in Cedarville, owned by the Mackinac County Road Commission, will be sold to the highest bidder, the commission decided Tuesday, March 2, after Clark Township, which had been thinking about purchasing it, said it is no longer interested.
The Cedarville garage has been used only for storage since the construction of the St. Ignace garage several years ago. With Clark Township no longer interested in the property, Road Commission Manager Dirk Heckman suggested the commission place the garage for sale at a minimum bid of $85,000, the amount for which it has been appraised. Bids will be accepted until April 16 at 2 p.m.
The money raised could be used to build a new storage building near one of the other commission-owned garages, Mr. Heckman said.
Weight Restriction
Put on County Roads Vehicles will not be allowed to weigh more than 65% of the maximum legal limit while traveling on Mackinac County roads, beginning March 8. The limit will be enforced by Michigan State Police.
Weight restrictions are often set in March and April when frost in the roads makes them most brittle and susceptible to damage. If state police suspect a vehicle weighs too much, they will pull it over and use a scale to weigh it, issuing citations as necessary.
