Many of the children attending the festival took to the hill on their sleds, tubes, and snowboards. As DeTour residents and visitors lined up on a lawn spotted by patches of green grass and snow of varying depths to try their hand at knocking a golf ball into a can in two swings, many of the competitors joked about the condition of the green and the number of ?gsnow traps?h scattered about, threatening the competitors' chances at a $10 prize. Friends, families, neighbors, and visitors enjoyed many free games like golf during DeTour Winterfest Saturday, February 27. Some chucked frozen fish into a gaping basketball hoop, while others brought their best chili concoctions to a cook-off. Children took to a sledding hill not far from the festival in and around the DeTour Village Memorial Hall, using sleds, tubes, and snowboards. Crowds warmed themselves by a large bonfire nearby.

Morian Reed of DeTour won a large packet of suckers from the DeTour Winterfest Candy Walk game Saturday, February 27. Children were treated to all sorts of sweets like entire bags of candy and large chocolate hearts. Children were treated to all sorts of sweets like entire bags of candy and large chocolate hearts. Inside the village hall, people enjoyed perusing tables cluttered with baked goods, crafts, and handbags. Japanese, Mexican, Dutch, and other ethnic foods sold quickly as buyers clogged the rows between tables.

At the candy walk game, children marched around a table littered with numbers. When the music stopped, candy gifts were handed out to winning numbers.

Other children joined the cherry pie eating contest, a win-win situation for many. Competitors attempted to consume the pie quickly without using their hands. In their excitement, some children sent the plate and the pies skittering across the table. The winner of each age division received $5, while other competitors received a dollar.

Nearby, adults competed in a contest to quickly eat spicy chicken wings. Heidi Fought of DeTour took first place, while Patricia Michalski of Goetzville raised her hands in victory to a second-place finish.
