Edalor ‘Ed’ Hins
Edalor "Ed" Hins, 72, of Naubinway, enjoyed a career in ranching and dairy farming before moving to the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Mr. Hins died at Tendercare Nursing Facility in Sault Ste. Marie Sunday, February 28, 2010.
He was born in Medina, North Dakota, January 10, 1938, to Gustav and Martha (nee Bitz) Hins.
Mr. Hins was graduated from high school in Medina in the Class of 1956, and then went on to the University of North Dakota, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science. He then served his country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1963. His last duty station was in Nevada, and he was employed at a large ranch there following his discharge. His employment for this ranch committed him to showing registered Hereford bulls all over the country and in Canada.
Following this job, Mr. Hins moved to Wasilla, Alaska, where he was employed as a dairy farmer.
He met his wife there. He married Karen Clark August 11, 1978. In 1988, they moved to the Naubinway area. In his lifetime, Mr. Hins survived three serious motor vehicle accidents. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Newberry, and was a member of the Community Ecumenical Choir. He was an avid reader of religious and science articles, a mathematician, and he loved crosswords and Sudoku puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Naubinway; two sons and their families, Ronald and Crystal Hins of Omaha, Nebraska, and Loren Hins of Sault Ste. Marie; one daughter and her family, Elizabeth and Solomon Blake of Glendale, Arizona; four grandchildren; and four siblings and their families, Reuben Hins of Bismark, North Dakota, Vernon and Leah Hins of Jamestown, North Dakota, Alice and Art Opp of Medina, and Margaret Lewis of Vail, Arizona.
He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and his brother, Valentine.
Visitation was at Beaulieu Funeral Home Saturday, March 6, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Services followed at the funeral home.
