(Photograph by Allison Sehoyan) Jay Barch of Mackinac Island took top prize in the Island's snow sculpting contest Friday, February 19. He crafted the egg-shaped nursery rhyme character Humpty Dumpty from snow and placed him atop a block wall also made of snow.

Taking second place was Madison Gamble with her three little snowmen and in third was a snow turtle created by Ike Bunker, Jr.

The winners were awarded cash prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third.

The contest, originally a part of Winter Festival activities February 6 and 7, had been postponed two weeks over a lack of good packing snow. The festival is organized by Mackinac Island Recreational Development, with proceeds used to support recreational activities throughout the year.
