St. Ignace sixth grade students (from left) Elani Engle and Tayla Lounsberry show their project -- a comparative study of pH between the saliva of sixth grade boys and girls -- to judges Tom Penner and Sue Shuler Tuesday morning, March 9, during the middle school's annual science fair. The students said they found saliva to be approximately equal in acidity after lunch, but that boys appear to have a higher, or more base, pH before lunch.

St. Ignace sixth-grader Trinity Holwerda shows off his science fair project Tuesday, March 9, which compared the range capacity of air-powered and spring-powered BB guns. He said his experiment showed that air-powered guns shot the BB much farther with the same amount of power.
Sixth-graders advancing include first-place student Gage Kreski, second-place student Abby Ostman, and third-place students Erin Bunker and Natalee Lee. Honorable mentions for sixth grade went to Dylan Marshall and Michael Mengini.
