Donald S. Moisio Sr., 70, a resident of the Newberry area, was a businessman in the Eastern Upper Peninsula and also had a 33-year career at the Newberry Regional Mental Health Facility. Mr. Moisio died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the home of his daughter in Negaunee, under the care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice.

He was born July 4, 1939, in Newberry to Elmer and Marie (nee Mattson) Moisio.

Mr. Moisio attended Newberry High School and was graduated in 1957. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1959. Following his discharge, he became employed at Ford Motor Company in Ypsilanti for three years, and he then worked part-time at the Newberry Regional Mental Health Facility. In 1967 he left Ford, moved his family to Newberry, and went to work at the Regional Mental Health Facility, a position he held for 33 years until his retirement.

He also owned and operated Moisio Auction Service for more than 20 years, was a home agent for Ab-ro Real Estate Agency in DeTour Village, drove a truck for Burton Trucking and Newberry Redi-Mix, and became a health aid for Northwoods Home Health. He also was a “hobby farmer,” enjoying raising vegetables, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, boating, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He married Darline Zibart November 6, 1963, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and their families, Durwin and Nancy of New Hudson and Don Jr. and Amanda of Negaunee; three daughters and their families, Juline and David Salbert, Bonita Moisio, and Tonia and Dan Kroll, all of Negaunee; nine grandchildren; siblings and their families, Elmer and Marie of Marquette and Sandy and David Brindley, all of Marquette, and Sherry and Jerry Pelletier of McMillan.

Mr. Moisio was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Parrish, and a granddaughter, Molly Elizabeth Moisio.

Visitation was Friday, March 12, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry and also at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newberry Saturday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services were Saturday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Dan Clemons officiating.

Inurnment will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry.
