George Kubitskey, 86, of Naubinway, served in the United States Army Air Force and later owned a Dearborn pharmacy before retiring to the Upper Peninsula. Mr. Kubitskey died Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Newberry Assisted Living Community.

He was born January 30, 1924, in Wayne to Steve and Margaret (nee Phillips) Kubitskey.

He married Barbara Hunt, and their family grew up in Farmington Hills.

He served his country in the United States Army Air Force from March 1944 until October 1946. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan Pharmacy School and owned and operated Monroe Pharmacy in Dearborn from 1956 until 1982.

He became a member of the Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club in 1963, and he and his wife retired to the area in 1985. Mr. Kubitskey was a resident of Naubinway for the past 24 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, friends said, and a true gentleman who was widely respected. He enjoyed sharing his love for the outdoors and sports with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Kubitskey is survived by three children and their families, Judith and Terry Hamilton of Naubinway, Paul and Wendy of Louisville, Kentucky, and Martha and Tom Griffin of Farmington Hills; seven grandchildren and their families, Emily, Katie, Brad, Greg, Kyle, Trevor, and Wendy and Noelle, and a sister, Marge Moers of Westland.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Barbara, he is preceded in death by his son, Dave, and 12 brothers and sisters.

Local memorial services will be held later this spring.
