Brevort
The sap is still running well in the Brevort sugar bushes.
The lovely red fox continues to roam around Joe and Sharon Chalmers’ home almost every day. Joe says it appears there is a den nearby, plus there are many small animals, chipmunks, and squirrels for prey.

Sunrise church service is scheduled at 6:30 a.m. at the Gustafson beach, just off Shore Road in Brevort. Pastor Kaiser will share the Easter news and then we will progress to the fellowship hall at Trinity Lutheran Church for the breakfast. All are welcome to join us. This will be Pastor Kaiser’s last official service at Trinity.
There were a few people at their vacation abodes this past weekend. We had a chance to visit with Mike and Heather Hebron and their children, Eva and J.P., here in the village. Matt and Michelle Telligin, along with Brook Franz, were also present, so it was a good time for catching up. Matt and Michelle have bought a vacation home and hope to spend more weekends in Brevort, and to retire here.
Dot Glashaw, Jerri Rose, and I attended Rosalie Robinson’s 70th birthday party in St. Ignace Saturday, March 27. Sharing our table were Shari Baron, Brenda Frey, Sharon Laakko, Peggy Jarman, Donna Beatty, Jan Nye, and Jackie Sagear. The event was very well attended by Rosalie’s many friends and family. Bill Robinson was the photographer.
Bob and Ellen Berry are home from their many trips this winter. Ellen will be starting her job at Fort Michilimackinac, and Bob will be reporting to the new Doud’s Market in St. Ignace and Mackinac Island. Bob was out walking Sunday, March 28, with the family pet, Izzy, a rescue dog from the shelter.
Mary Carney has a trail camera mounted in her backyard, not for hunting, but to see what kind of wildlife passes through during the night. She has photographs of coyotes, fox, and then a few ravens during the daylight hours. There aren’t many songbirds around yet, despite the warm weather. Mary spotted a large flock of snow buntings early last week and thought the worst (like maybe snow), but all we had was a brief cold snap. Mary said she enjoys the warm sunshine. Dave and I have noticed the Canada geese on the beach, off Shore Road. A pair of sandhill cranes flew over as we walked home. The water in the lake is quite low, and one can observe where all the old fishing docks used to be by the piles of rocks from the cribs of the foundations. Mark Spencer reports a couple pair of these are on the pipeline behind his property.
Denny and Jackie Rippett called from the Detroit Tigers game they were attending.
Jackie Rogers has received her big order of seeds for the vegetable garden she, Jim, Levi, Jessie, and Wilder will be putting in this spring.

We’ve received many favorable comments on the article reporter Ted Booker wrote for The St. Ignace News about the Michigan Heritage Award for the Swedish –American community and mid-summer pole in Brevort. It was published in the newspaper March 25.
