Without a doubt, the highlight of this past week for many was the tour of the new Mackinac Straits Health System and the Sault Tribal Health Clinic and Human Services in St. Ignace. The residents living here and in the surrounding area can feel proud to have such a facility to serve the health needs of the community.

There will be a Red Hat Society luncheon meeting Saturday, May 1, at the Kewadin Casinos dining room in St. Ignace. The topic of discussion will be the upcoming flea market and bake sale Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8, at the Souvenir Barn on West US-2 in St. Ignace.

Ian and Amy Mitchell spent the past weekend at their home on Wildwood Drive. They enjoyed the nice afternoon by walking the beach to Brevort, where Dave and I happened to meet them, as we were also enjoying a walk in the nice weather.

The fox still roam about the neighborhood. Joe and Sharon Chalmers believe they have two different animals, as one is definitely bigger than the other. Brian Rose has a smaller fox that appears to be quite friendly. Brian brought out some cooked chicken breast, which the fox appreciated. He was close, but still wary.

Bob Jarzynka is planting tomato seeds for transplanting in his garden. Bob also makes walking sticks out of cedar, and if he’s lucky, diamond willow, which is difficult to find. He sells them at local businesses.

Jamica Diamond and Priscilla Revord recently enjoyed their morning coffee in the sun.

Brenda and Mark Spencer, the younger, are still dealing with the fur trade. They’re also getting their pasty shop ready to open Friday, April 30.

Mark Spencer, the elder, attended a fur harvesters convention in North Bay, Ontario, last week.

Jeremy Winter, newly ordained pastor serving Trinity Lutheran Church of Brevort and Zion Lutheran Church of St. Ignace, arrived at the parsonage Thursday, April 8. His parents, uncle, and sister all drove the long distance from Iowa to help Pastor Jeremy set up his household. His brother, Allan, will be living with him at the parsonage in St. Ignace.

Happy belated birthday to Kathy Reid April 10. Happy birthday to Jason Lyon April 14. Jason is married to the former Kayley Lasley of St. Ignace and they now live on Long Island, New York. Happy birthday to Alfie Dyer April 19, Ingrid Daemmrich April 21, and Linda Kitzman April 23.
