Kenneth ‘Bud’ Weger
Longtime Garnet resident Kenneth "Bud" Weger, 87, was a World War II Navy veteran and went on to a career as an electric company lineman. Mr. Weger died Wednesday morning April 7, 2010, at the Luce County Annex in Newberry.
Born November 16, 1922, in Barbeau, he was the son of Michael and Demerese (nee Cody) Weger.
Mr. Weger served in the United States Navy during World War II until his honorable discharge October 25, 1945.
He married Margie Kerridge December 31, 1945, in Newberry and they made Garnet their home.
He was employed as a journeyman for several years and later as a lineman for Cloverland Electric for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1985.
Mr. Weger was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 872 of Grand Rapids and a member of VFW Post 8372 and American Legion Post 290, both of Engadine. His hobbies and interests included deer hunting, woodworking, and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Margie, of Garnet; a son and his family, Ronnie and Jackie of Brookhaven, Mississippi; four grandchildren; nine siblings and their families, Mable McGillviary of Gladstone, Ethel Kerridge of Garnet, Mary Collarille of Younkers, New York, Evelyn Flanigan of Minnesota, Annabelle and Ray Hansen of Carpio, North Dakota, Wilma and Jim Gunderman of Sparta, Carl Weger and Clayton Weger, both of Sault Ste. Marie, and Clarence Weger of Ionia; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Weger was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry Thursday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Miller officiating. Burial will take place at Maplewood Cemetery.
