Pickford School Renewal, Buses

Pickford Public Schools will seek a renewal of a 18-mill operating millage in the May 4 election. Agreeing to this statutory rate of 18 mills allows the school district to receive its per-pupil funding from the state. This non-homestead millage is levied on all property, with the exception of principal residences. The millage is for one year.

If continued, taxpayers will pay $18 for every $1,000 of taxable property value and the millage would generate $514,900 this year.

The district is also asking for up to a 0.65 mills for four years to back the purchase of two new buses to replace a 1992 bus and 1997 model in an eight-vehicle fleet. Five busses are used for day-to-day pickup.

The cost of the busses would not exceed $180,000, and the millage could be reduced if the cost is less.
