Norman Souter
Norman Bruce Souter, 68, of Newton Township, passed away peacefully at home April 25, 2010, surrounded by his family.
He was born September 27, 1941, to Gordon and Margaret (nee McNeil) Souter in Ferndale.
Mr. Souter was graduated from Ferndale High School. He married Lois Kristiansen October 30, 1965, at Mt. Calvary Church in Detroit. He worked as a pipe fitter for 38 years for Ford Motor Company.
He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and was known for his sense of humor and his story telling. He was an avid gun collector and sportsman who instilled a love of guns and the outdoors in his children and grandchildren. He loved his dogs, gardening, going to garage sales, and traveling between his home in the Upper Peninsula and his home in Florida.
Mr. Souter is survived by his wife, Lois; four children and their families, Kari and Don Hite of Palm Coast, Florida, Karen and Chuck Leemhuis of Allenton, Kristen and Ted Trottier of Metamora, Erik Souter of Auburn Hills; six grandchildren and their families, Melissa Leemhuis and Kevin Van De Steene, Justin Leemhuis, Jason Souter, Nick Trottier, Heather Trottier, and Ethan Souter.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gray Fowler.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 28, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Roth-Muir Funeral Home in Romeo. Services will be held Thursday, April 29, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend William Brooks of the Twelve-Ryan Baptist Church of Warren officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 2, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry. Services will be Monday, May 3, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend William Brooks officiating. Burial will be made at Newton Township Cemetery.
