Mae Lillian Bawks, 83, of Pickford, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.
She was born May 27, 1926, to Floyd Hamilton Huyck and Hattie May (nee O'Brien) Huyck.
Mrs. Bawks was a lifelong resident of Pickford.
She was graduated from Pickford High School in 1944. She married Dean M. Bawks May 2, 1945, and they built their home three miles south of Pickford on M-129, where their three sons grew up. She worked as a bookkeeper for her brother at Frank Huyck Trucking for 40 years. She also worked at the Village Inn restaurant for 11 years, and parttime for Stiling Accounting for several years.
She enjoyed her grandchildren very much, and also the time she spent with her neighbors.
Mrs. Bawks was a member of the Pickford United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club, Northwoods Christian Camp, and the Pickford Area Historical Society.
She is survived by her three sons and their families, Larry and Sharon Bawks of Pickford, Jerry and Cindy Bawks of Perry, and Bruce and Glenda Bawks of Bowie; eight grandchildren and their families, Jason and Brittany, Amy, Lindsay, Kyle and Sarah, Joel and Rachel, Kreg, David, and Rachel Bawks, and four greatgrandchildren, Elyse, Blake, Nathanael, and Carter Bawks. Also surviving are one brother and his family, Vern and Mary Lynn Huyck of Pickford; two sisters and their families, Cora and Bob Holly of San Jose, California, and Elaine Lawary of Quincy, Illinois, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, in 1997; four brothers, Frank Huyck in 2004, Melvin Huyck in 1941, and infants Roy and Duane; two sisters, Violet Earl in 2005 and Hazel Markstrom in 1957, and an infant granddaughter, Laura Sue Bawks.
Visitation was at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford Thursday, April 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to noon. Services were at the funeral home Friday, April 30, at noon with the Reverend Paul Gruenberg. Burial followed at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township.
