Myrtice Cross

Myrtice Cross Myrtice Cross Myrtice Joy Cross, 74, of DeTour Village, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.

She was born May 1, 1936, in DeTour to Jewell and Wilda (nee Bailey) LaMere. She was a lifelong resident of DeTour.

She married Lawrence “Larry” Cross August 29, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeTour.

Her family, whom she cherished above all else, was most important to her, friends said, and Mrs. Cross will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, strength, and her sense of humor. She enjoyed reading, visiting with friends and family, working crossword puzzles, and watching her favorite television shows, especially her soaps, Jeopardy, and Antiques Roadshow. Mrs. Cross was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; seven children and their families, Debra and Mike Cross Desrochers of Nashville, Michigan, Larry and Cathy Cross of Grandville, Lori and Randy Kleiman of Escanaba, Donna and Joe Barrette of DeTour, Janet Cross and Ross Woods of Harbor Springs, Jayne and Andy Papandreou of Chicago, Illinois, and Richard and Michele Cross of Tecumseh; 15 grandchildren, Cristina, Terrence, and Joey Desrochers, Katie, Becky, and Michael Cross, Lauren Dean Kleiman, Jaime Gibbons and Joe Barrette, Lindsay Joy Fussman, Jack and Ella Joy Papandreou, Justin, Brendan, and Madison Cross, and a great-granddaughter, Cambree Joy Gibbons. She is also survived by her sisters, Beatrice Schultz of Flint, and Cleo Finch of Benzonia; a special nephew, Ronald “Mike” LaMere of DeTour; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Cross was preceded in death by her sister, Erna Stiles.

Services were Thursday, May 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeTour Village. Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by mass at 2 p.m. with Father George Vaniyepurackal as celebrant. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in DeTour Township.

Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
