Paul Foster

Paul Michael Foster, 63, of Onekama, formerly of Cedarville, was a teacher who managed Cedar Campus at Cedarville. Mr. Foster passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born November 23, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, to Dragan “Dan” and Anne (nee Evosevic) Foster.

A natural teacher, Mr. Foster most enjoyed mentoring and encouraging others, friends said, and he was generous with this time and energy.

During the Vietnam War, Mr. Foster served his country for two years of alternative service in Detroit. He returned to California to complete his Industrial Arts degree. Mr. Foster joined Inter- Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) staff in the Seattle area.

He married Elaine Deal June 15, 1969, at the Onekama Church of the Brethren.

Mr. Foster returned to California to finish his teaching certificate and began teaching small engine repair and woodshop at Reedley High School. In 1980, the family was invited to move to Cedarville, for Mr. Foster to serve as general manager of Cedar Campus, an IVCF training facility. He became a member of First Union Church, serving as an elder and teacher for many years. In 2000, the couple moved to Onekama, where he taught computer maintenance and repair at Manistee Intermediate School District. For the past three years, he taught woodshop and managed the yearbook at Onekama High School.

In addition to his wife, Elaine, Mr. Foster is survived by four children and their families, Sarah and Jon Wiedyk of Lowell, Daniel and Rachel Foster of Mason, Elizabeth and Michael Herrick of Eaton Rapids, and David and Erin Foster of Chicago, and six grandchildren, Karis, Esther, Alethea, and Adam Foster, Nathaniel Wiedyk, and Stella Foster; a granddaughter is expected, Eva Foster. He also is survived by two sisters and their families, Martha and Dave Karnell of Denver, Colorado, and Donna Randle and Gary Isaacson of Queen Creek, Arizona; his motherin law, Frances T. Deal of Onekama; a brother-in-law, Loren Deal of Drummond Island; two sisters in-law, Virginia and Kendall Dykhuis of Hibbing, Minnesota, and Nancy and Michael Cichy of Manistee, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Daniel Deal.

Visitation will be Friday, May 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Services will be Saturday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at the Onekama Consolidated Schools auditorium in Onekama. Interment will take place in the Onekama Village Cemetery in Onekama.
