St. Ignace Saints Sweep Regional 2 Track Titles
The St. Ignace Saints girls track team won the Division 2 championship at Ishpeming Friday, May 21. The St. Ignace Saints girls and boys swept the Division 2 track and field regional championships at Ishpeming High School Friday, May 21.
St. Ignace girls used balanced scoring with seven victories to tally 76.2 points and outdistance Munising’s 34.2, Manistique’s 31.2, Ishpeming’s 28.2, and Rudyard’s 17.2. Newberry was scoreless.
The Saints boys captured seven events to post 50 points and edge out Rudyard, which had 44, followed by the host Hematites with 41, Munising with 27, Manistique with 21, and Newberry with 4.

The top four places in the individual and relay events qualify for the Upper Peninsula state finals at Kingsford Saturday, June 5, starting at 10 a.m.
St. Ignace Girls: Kristen Olsen, first in high jump with mark of 4'10", second in discus; Anna St. Andrew, first in long jump with a leap of 14'4", second in 800; Heather Beaudoin, first in high hurdles in 17.37, second in low hurdles; Haillee Brown, first in low hurdles in 51.84, second in high hurdles; Christi Therrian, first in shot put with a toss of 34'2.5", third in discus; Kali Jo Marshall, first in pole vault with a height of 9'4"; Grace Wheeler, second in high jump, third in long jump; Nicole Elmblad, third in low hurdles and pole vault; Alexa Thibault, third in 200 and 400 meter dashes; Kara Fitzpatrick, third in long jump; Sarah Cullip, fourth in 1600 and 3200 runs and pole vault; Brooklyn Chambers, fourth in 800. The Saints 800 relay foursome of Taylor Becker, Autumn Huskey, Kali Jo Marshall, and Alexa Thibault finished first in 1:53.13. The Saints finished second in the 400, 1,600, and 3,200 relays.

"The girls have performed as a team all season," said Saints coach Trudy Olsen. "They all have given 100 percent, and that is why we have been successful and hope this will carry over to the U.P. Finals."
Caleb Litzner of St. Ignace won the low and high hurdles during the regional track meet.
Rudyard Girls:
Hunter Perry, first in discus with a throw of 96'5", fourth in shot put; Samantha Raffaele, second in high jump; Leah Jarvie, third in 1600; Caitlyn Mudroch, fourth in low and high hurdles; Emily Markstrom, fourth in 400. The Bulldogs too second place in the 3,200 relay and fourth and the 400, 800, and 1,600 relays.
St. Ignace Boys: The trio of Evan Everson, Caleb Litzner, and Austin St. Louis posted double victories each. Everson won the 200 in 23.44, 400 in 51.21, second in 100; Litzner won the low hurdles in 17.12 and high hurdles in 42.39; St. Louis won the long jump with a leap of 18'5" and high jump with a height of 5'10"; Gerrit Mortensen, first in shot put with a toss of 45'10", Grant Simmons, third in discus' Parker Simmons, third in high jump; Luke Thurston, fourth in shot put. The Saints finished second in the 1,600 relay and third in the 400 and 800 relays.

"The coaches felt this was going to be a close race," said Saints coach Emily Fullerton. "This was a team effort and we will need the same results at the state finals."
Rudyard Boys: Drew Otten, first in 800 in 2:06.37, second in 400; David Jarvie, second in 800 and 1600; Ron Coffey, second in 200, third in 100; Arik Hesselink, second in high jump; Ben Gable, second in shot put; Mike Dempsey, second in discus, Jared Clark, fourth in 200. The Bulldogs 800 relay team of Arik Hesselink, Drew Otten, Jared Clark, and Ron Coffey won in 1:35.76, the 400 relay foursome of Caleb Salo, Ben Gable, Jared Clark, and Ron Coffey finished first in 46.03, and the school took second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600 relay placed third.

Track Results
Cedarville boys and Brimley girls captured the Division 3 track and field crowns at Pickford High School Friday, May 21.
Cedarville, with 73.5 points, won seven events and were led by Jordan Baker with four individual victories, while Pickford finished second with 38.5 points, Engadine earned 34, Brimley had 15, DeTour had 14, and Mackinac Island was scoreless.
During the finish of the 800 meter run the Saints’ Anna St. Andrew (right) finished second and Brooklyn Chambers placed fourth.
Brimley won eight events and were led by Alexis Mason with three individual victories to tally 68 points, followed by Pickford with 49 points, Engadine with 22, DeTour with 19, Engadine with 17, and Mackinac Island scoreless.
Cedarville Boys: Jordan Baker, first in high hurdles in 17.28, low hurdles in 42.52, high jump with a height of 6'0", and long jump with a leap of 18'7.5"; Tyler Kanitz, first in 800 in 2:12.18; Michael Kenny, first in pole vault with a height of 11'0"; Josh Hester, second in 1600 and 3200, third in 800; Martin Payment, second in high jump; Zach McFarlane, second in 400; Keith Bouschor, second in pole vault, fourth in long jump; Matt Schlosser, third in 1600 and 3200; Trent Pitko, third in 200, fourth in 100; Kelly Izzard, fourth in discus; Jacob Strait, fourth in shot put; Patrick Weaver, fourth in high hurdles. The Trojans won the 3,200 relay in 9:11.73 and the 1,600 relay in 3:52.00 and placed second in the 400 and 800 relays.
Pickford Boys: Paul Morrison, second in low and high hurdles; Jordan LaVigne, second in 100 and long jump; Brandon Hickman, second in 800; Jarred LaVigne, third in low and high hurdles; Jake Robinson, third in pole vault, fourth in high jump; Austin Brunning, fourth in 800 and 1,600; Phillip Coullard, fourth in long jump; Bobby Rye, fourth in pole vault. The Panthers won the 400 relay in 48.68 and the 800 relay in 1:40.31, took second in the 1,600 relay and third in the 3,200 relay.
Engadine Boys: Phillip Hood led the Eagles with wins in the 100 in 11.58, 200 in 23.08, 400 in 51.50, and placed third in the long jump; Michael Klobucher, first in shot put with a toss of 41'9", second in discus; David Fowell, first in discus with a throw of 115'3", third in shot put; Victor Collins, fourth in 200; Jeffrey Dishaw, fourth in 3,200. The Eagles took third in the 400 and 800 relays.
Brimley Boys: Keith Swendson, first in 1,600 in 4:57.85 and 3,200 in 10:41,00; Justin Graham, fourth in 400; Ty Root, fourth in low hurdles. The Bays took second in the 3,200 relay, third in the 1,600 relay, and fourth in the 400 relay.
DeTour Boys: Sam Peterson, second in 200, third in 100, 400, and high jump; Harry Reinfelder, second in shot put, third in discus.
Brimley Girls: Alexis Mason, first in 100 in 13.43, 200 in 27.92, long jump with a leap of 13'1.5"; Becca Carruthers, first in high hurdles in 17.86, second in low hurdles, fourth in high jump; Lynnette Carrick, first in 1600 in 6:05.81, 3200 in 13:10.00; Kaytlyn St. Peter, first in shot put with a toss of 30'4", second in discus; Sydney Beaune, first in discus with a throw of 91'3", third in shot put; Jessica Graham, first in high jump with a mark of 5'0"; Miranda Reattoir, third in 1600, fourth in 3200; Taylor Mills, third in 3200, fourth in 1600; Megan Parish, third in 800. The Bays finished second in the 800 and 1,600 relays and third in the 3,200 relay.
"This has been a strong team all season, but with return of Becca Carruthers and Jessica Graham, we became better," said Bays coach Joyel Hyvarinen. "This is a good group of girls that have been fun to coach."
Pickford Girls: Callie Smith, first in 400 in 1:06.79, Brandi Kopitz, first in 800 in 2:35.04; Victoria Cusick, first in pole vault with a height of 7'6", fourth in 400; Kristen Cline, second in 100, 200, long jump; Rileigh Teneyck, second in pole vault; Olivia Smith, fourth in low hurdles; Katie Raynard, fourth in pole vault; Marlee Michalski, fourth in shot put. The Panthers won the 1,600 relay in 4:33.00 and the 3,200 relay in 10:40.82 and placed second in the 400 relay.
Engadine Girls: Jackie Formolo, second in shot put, fourth in discus; Mikayla Vallier, second in 400; Tia Browning, third in 200 and 400, fourth in 100 and long jump; Kacie Rutledge, third in discus; Katie Hobbs, third in low hurdles. The Eagles won the 400 relay in 57.44 and finished third in the 800 relay.
DeTour Girls: Nicole Melcer, first in low hurdles in 52.14, second in high hurdles, third in high jump; Nicole Bouwma, second in high jump, fourth in high hurdles; Alyssa Anderson, third in 100, fourth in 200; Abby Stocking, third in long jump. The Raiders took third in the 400 relay.
Cedarville Girls: Erin Currie, second in 800, 1600, 3200; Jillian Collins, third in pole vault; Kharizma Labinski, third in high hurdles; Janaan Meyers, fourth in 800. The Trojans finished third in the 1,600 relay.
