Ronald B. Colegrove, 48, of St. Ignace, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, May 26, 2010, at War Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Sault Ste. Marie.
He was born in St. Ignace March 10, 1962, to Louis and Phyllis (nee Moses) Colegrove.
Mr. Colegrove was graduated from LaSalle High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He has been in construction work for all of his working life, for Manthei for 18 years, M and M for five years, and Maverick for the past five years. He was a journeyman pipe fitter, working mostly on water and sewer line constructions.
He is a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
Family meant everything to him, his friends said. He had 11 nieces and nephews and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also had many immediate friends who he saw every day. He loved to take care of everyone he knew. Mr. Colegrove enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing sports, and watching Michigan football and basketball. He was a University of Michigan fan.
Mr. Colegrove is survived be his wife, Lisa (nee Huffman) Colegrove; two sons, Ronald Jr., and Aaron Colegrove of St. Ignace, two daughters, Katie Colegrove of Holland, and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Colegrove at home; two stepdaughters, Tiffany Davis of Cheboygan and Allysa Gravelle at home; two brothers and their families, Robert and Diane, and Gerald, all of St. Ignace; two sisters and their families, Mary Ann and Mike McCarthy of Flushing, Kay Marie Brown of Honor; two grandchildren, Ellie and Sophie Colegrove; his parents, Louis and Phyllis Colegrove of St. Ignace; his father-in-law and mother-inlaw, Jim and Betty Huffman of Hessel, and his grandmother, Betty Colegrove.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ralph Colegrove Sr., and a nephew, Louie Brown.
Services were Tuesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at the St. Ignace United Methodist Church with pastor Dan Williams officiating. Visitation was at the church at 10 a.m. Pallbearers were Mike Massey, Robbie McLean, Woody Woodford, Eddie Glashaw, Ron Belonga, A.J. Baker, Henry Smith, and John Paul Brown. Burial was in the Native American Cemetery, Wequayoc, on M-134.
Dodson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
