County Seeks Site Improvement
County commissioners discussed plans for improving the county Web site, considered entering an agreement with the EUP Regional Planning and Development Commission, and approved a contract with Cryderman Builders of St. Ignace to renovate a storage vault at Mackinac County commission meeting Thursday, May 27.
Commissioner Mike Patrick informed the board that several residents from his district have complained about the county's Web site, which was created by e- Chamber Connect of Ann Arbor for $1,500, saying that it is out-ofdate and not user friendly.
“We have a problem with this Web site and the people not following through,” he said. “We've got to do something to get this running right.”
County Equalization Director Jim Fenlon, who attended the meeting to update the board, told commissioners that the company failed to inform the county that a newer version of the Web site was available. The Web site was shut down last month owing to fraudulent activity, he said, and has been rebuilt with a newer version, but it hasn't been updated recently.
“They got the Web site back up and running, and then it kind of hit a wall,” he said.
In response, Commission Chair Dawn Nelson recommended commissioners invite Greg Troin, a representative for e-Chamber Connect who's been working with the county, to the next meeting Thursday, June 10, to further discuss plans for the Web site, which was approved.
The board also responded to a proposal submitted by the EUP Regional Planning and Development Commission requesting digital parcel information from the county's equalization office, which would assist the organization in future projects.
Clark Township has a mapping system created by Regional Planning and Development that offers a map of the region, as well as with parcel and 9-1-1 numbers, Mrs. Nelson said, which could be useful to the county for processing census data. To learn more about the program, commissioners decided to postpone entering a contract with the organization until its next meeting, and invited Jeff Hagan, its director, to attend.
Two bids were opened for a project to renovate a storage vault at the Mackinac County Courthouse. Whiskey River Construction of Rudyard submitted a bid for $11,577 and Cryderman Builders of St. Ignace submitted a bid for $7,200, which was approved by commissioners.
