Art Allen, 87, one of the first members of the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame committee, died Wednesday, June 2, in Thompson.

A graduate of Manistique High School and Northern Michigan University, Mr. Allen taught and coached for more than 30 years in Upper Peninsula high schools and was inducted into the NMU Sports Hall of Fame and the U.P. Sports Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Ona, and three sons, Terry, Gary, and John.
