Hessel Resort Appreciates Dark Sky Concept

To the Editor:

Hessel on The Lake may be the first area resort to actively promote and preserve unspoiled views of the night sky. It was only a few days before we read the front page story [The St. Ignace News, June 10] about the Headlands’ attempt to become a Dark Sky Park that we installed our first Dark Sky-approved porch lights on two of the cottage decks and porches. We decided to make the changes because outdoor lights can be almost obnoxious to the eyes on beautiful summer evenings. We didn’t know of the International Dark Sky Association; we just wanted our guests to enjoy the beauty of the area and the fantastic skies that we have “up here!” The lighting affect is wonderful.

We have now ordered these wonderful lights for all of the cottages and would be pleased to share the information on two inexpensive lights and where to buy them, if anyone is interested. We can provide this information to those interested at 484-2440.
