Area Coaches, Players Compete in All-Star Game
Eleven area players and two coaches will take part in the 25th Annual Upper Peninsula All-Star basketball game to be played at Norway High School Saturday, June 19. The girls game is scheduled to tip off at noon and the boys at 2 p.m.
Gerrit Mortensen of St. Ignace, Class A-B-C Player of the Year; McKinley Portice of Pickford, Class D Player of the Year, along with Arik Hesselink, Drew Otten, and Scott Coffey of Rudyard, Andrew Jaroche of Cedarville, and Tyler Anderson of DeTour, will lead the North team in the classic contest.
St. Ignace Saints Dorene and Doug Ingalls will coach the girls North squad that will consist of area players Emily Jeffreys of Rudyard, Jillian Collins of Cedarville, Jena Ledy of Pickford, and Jessica Graham of Brimley.
The event, a benefit for the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund, will start with a skills game at 10 a.m., which will include a three-point shootout, free throw contest, and slam dunk.
