The fifth generation Swedish Americans who drove the linch pin into the midsummer pole were Drew Gustafson, Grant Gustafson, Bradley Gustafson, Lucas Gustafson, and Linnie Gustafson, greatgreat grandchildren of Charles and Ida Gustafson. Also present were Zachary Movalson and Samantha Movalson, great-great-grandchildren of Axel and Elin Blom Movalson.

Last week Aaron Dodge and Alia Compton of Grand Rapids were visitors at the home of Aaron’s grandparents, Tom and Taffy Coffey.

Kirk and Laura Leibengood of Laingsburg spent a few days at the Coffey cottage on the beach.

Lorie Quigley and Joe Stewart have arrived at their summer place. They’re enjoying the cooler temperatures, as Florida was getting very warm. They attended the Indian pow-wow at Brimley Sunday, June 27. They visited with Dr. Marlene Mackey at her home on Lake Superior. Kay Allot was painting doors for the new house. Lorie and Joe also visited with Dr. Rob Mackey, who lives next door to his sister.

John and Carol Faye Watson are at home at their cottage on Fisherman’s Drive. John and Carol Faye are from Missouri and traditionally spend their summers here with the Gustafson family.

Brian and Jeannie Rose spent a few days with their daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Jamal Ksar, and grandchildren, Kaden and Andrew, in Troy. The Ksars are moving to Fort Myers, Florida, where Dr. Ksar will practice medicine.

Anne Andersen is at the Hagen family home for a week or more. She is busy sanding and painting the doors to the house.

Jack and Thora Shepard drove to DeTour Village Saturday, June 26, for the Art Festival.

Joyce and Tom Gustafson attended the graduation of their granddaughter, Sarah Campbell. Sarah is the daughter of Steve and April Campbell of Saratoga Springs, New York. Sarah was graduated with honors from Saratoga High School, and was an All-American lacrosse player, having made 59 goals and 37 assists during the 2009/2010 season. She will have a full ride at the University of Vermont this fall. Her sister, Ashley Campbell, a student at the University of Maryland, and another sister and brother-in-law, Danielle and Curtis Arprey, of Liverpool, New York, joined family members in the celebration.

Ernie and Paula Gustafson hosted a cookout at their summer cottage for the Gustafson family and Pat and Jeff Cranson.

Jackie and Denny Rippett spent last weekend in Calumet. They were guests of their granddaughter, Kara Sokol, for the Pasty Fest weekend. They marched in the parade and served as judges in a pasty contest with David Sokol.

I need to correct some errors in last week’s column. Louise Schaeffer, although married to Phil Schaeffer, remains Louise Anderson. Bob Bailey is really Bob Railly.
