Everyone is welcome to the Fourth of July celebration at Naubinway Friday, July 2, through Sunday, July 4. The kiddie parade and games start Friday at 6:30 p.m. There will be a teen dance at the pavilion from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., with music by Sammy Beaverson. Saturday activities include Blessing of the Fleet at 10 a.m., Knights of Columbus fish fry from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Naubinway parade honoring our military at 1 p.m., live music by local musicians from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and fireworks at dusk. Sunday activities include the Black Bear Run beginning at 9:30 a.m. and water events (canoe/kayak races and water volleyball) at 1 p.m. at the marina in Naubinway.
Erickson Center for the Arts will present "Follywood," a variety show and luncheon on the lawn at Chamberlin's Ole Forest Inn in Curtis Saturday, July 3, starting at 1 p.m. Ticket donation is $25 for adults and $18 for children age 12 and younger. Tickets are available at Chamberlin's, Curtis Service, Erickson Center of the Arts, Moose du Nord, and U.P. Trading Company. Everyone is welcome.
The Curtis Independence Day celebration and parade is Sunday, July 4, starting at 12:30 p.m., with fireworks at dusk. The Lions Club will have a chicken barbecue and the Chamber of Commerce will have a food and beverage tent, along with art and craft vendors all day at the Curtis Park.
The 32nd annual Fourth of July parade will be Saturday, July 3, at 10:30 a.m. in downtown Newberry. The parade starts at the American Legion and can be viewed along Newberry Avenue. Immediately following the parade, Kiwanis will serve their traditional chicken barbecue, and Pet Pals will offer their brownie bonanza at the American Legion on M-123 in Newberry. At the Tahquamenon Area Schools in Newberry, Helen Newberry Joy Hospital will host the seventh annual Community Appreciation Day, complete with games and prizes, five different inflatables, food, crafts, raffles, and Jim Dwyer's historical photograph display.
