Elaine Sprague wanted to let everyone know about the historical society meeting Thursday, June 10, with Jim Royer as speaker. He told hilarious stories about colorful Rudyard personalities of the past, and says he knows of even more stories to tell in the future. After his talk, a "Name that Tune" contest was conducted by Alice (nee Royer) Spring. Jim played a song on the piano, and the group was divided into teams to see who could guess the tune first. About 55 people attended the meeting, including next month's speaker, Jan Huttenstine, who will speak Thursday, July 8, about her recently published book on the Whitefish Point area entitled "Remotely Yours." This is the first book of a projected trilogy, and Jan will tell us about some of the Rudyard connections with Whitefish Point.
Rudyard's Summer Fest will be Friday, July 23, through Sunday, July 25, with a children's parade Friday night, the regular parade Saturday at 10 a.m., games and events all day at the pavilion, and an art show sponsored by the historical society at the community center Saturday afternoon. Our miniature schoolhouse will also be open, with its old desks, books, maps, and memorabilia of country schools.
The Rudyard Library will be closed Mondays for the summer. The library will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. It will be closed Saturday, July 3.
Summer children's story hour at the library is from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. each Tuesday until the end of July, with the exception of July 6. This includes prizes, activities, and stories.
Just a reminder that aqua tots swimming lessons will start Tuesday, July 6. Contact the Consolidated Community Schools Service office, or just come in to the pool for lessons at 5:30 p.m.
