The annual car show in St. Ignace was spectacular last weekend and drew spectators from across the country. Residents of our town also look forward to participating in the show each year and hosting guests from all over. The show featured many cars whose owners had not been here before, as well as many who love to return every year. The parade and show were enjoyed by all.

Dan Coveyou, having grown up in Ottawa, Illinois, now resides in St. Ignace. He was busy setting up parking spots for the car show this weekend. The object was to raise money for the Catholic youth group.

Jim Kosek of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, arrived in St. Ignace for the 35th annual car show. This is his fourth summer in the St. Ignace area, where he says he enjoys new sights every day.

Saturday was also the day for mud drags in town. Jim West placed first, Tom Huff of Cedarville came in second, and John Huyck placed third in competition at Little Bear East Arena. The next event will be Sunday, July 11, at noon in Dafter.

Fireworks took place at dusk Saturday and will continue each Saturday evening throughout the summer. On Sundays, St. Ignace will present free outdoor family movies at American Legion Park. The first showing will be this Saturday, July 3 (not on Sunday this week owing to holiday festivities). All are welcome.

It was good to hear from Robin (nee Faleris) Granger, now a resident of Wyoming. A wild storm took place near her home Friday, June 25, but everything is okay. Robin says hello to her St. Ignace friends.

I had a short visit with Bob Cheeseman. He is glad to be back working on Mackinac Island.

Sympathy goes to the family of Peg Binger. She and her husband, Paul, owned Millers Camp many years ago on US-2. The couple were involved in the community and were well liked by all.

Jim Orris is pleased to take office of new commander of St. Ignace Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5114 in St. Ignace. Mr. Orris has been very active in the organization and also enjoys cooking for many occasions, including Friday fish fries.

Belated birthday wishes to Ron Lee and Mike Tamlyn June 25, Howard Hague June 26, and Tom Colegrove June 27.
