Mackinaw City Library Plans Summer Program

The Mackinaw Area Public Library has four summer reading programs scheduled. The programs are held each Monday in July from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and are free to attend. Children of all ages can also play book bingo, where they cover squares on a sheet by reading books. A prize bag is awarded when a line is completed on the sheet.

Author, artist, and performer Kevin Kammeraad will present “It's Raining Rhythm and Rhyme” Monday, July 5. The show will feature poetry, puppets, and music.

Acting-Up Theatre will perform “Fish Tank Follies” Monday, July 12. The play focuses on the Smith family fish tank residents, such as Star the diva star fish, Clownie the clownfish, and Goldie McCrazygills, a daredevil goldfish attempting the greatest stunt ever performed in a fish tank.

“Rock and Roll into Reading,” a program that explores the roots of rock music, is scheduled for Monday, July 19. Visitors will experience a trip through genres such as blues, jazz, gospel, and country while Dave Parker, a ventriloquist, interacts with his partner, Skippy.

Magician Thomas Plunkard, who entertained children during last year's summer reading program, returns with his “Beyond Magic” program. Visitors will be treated to a magic show including a “wacky egg” illusion that appears as if the egg has a mind of its own.
