Joe Brown
Joe Brown, a senior at Ferris State University and a LaSalle High School graduate and St. Ignace Golf Club standout, qualified for the first time to compete at Michigan Amateur Championships, but lost in the second round in the five-day competition.
Brown was one of 156 golfers selected after carding an 18-hole score of 74 at the Boyne Highlands Heather Course to earn a spot at the amateur championship round at Oakhurst Golf and Country Club in Clarkston Tuesday, June 22, through Saturday, June 26.
During the first two days of medal play, the son of Ben and Claudette Brown recorded an 18- hole score of 77-76 and advanced to match play.
Brown defeated Joe Parker five up with four holes to play, but suffered a three-to-two setback at the hands of Matt Thompson.
"Joe was pleased to qualify and advance to the second round of match play," said Ben Brown, who caddied for his son.
