With the beautiful weather we’ve been enjoying, folks are making the most of their summer toys -- boats, fishing gear, golf bags, camping equipment, and beach supplies.

Kenny Belonga, Jr., was lucky last week as he caught a rainbow trout while fishing with his grandparents, Wyatt and Jeannie Edelman. A friend, Eric Perrault, also joined in. Kenny’s mother is Bobbi Getchell. The Edelmans recently moved to St. Ignace from Oregon.

Jimmy Bean was a recent visitor at the home of Boyd and Becky Bigger of Moran.

It was nice to hear from Jeannette (nee Carter) Dabbs of Oxford, Alabama, who was a recent visitor in her hometown. Jeannette will celebrate her birthday July 14.

The St. Ignace Arts Initiative is a new group established to promote arts in our community. The first planned activity is a trip to see “Shrek the Musical” in Chicago Wednesday, August 11. This is a great show for all, from small children and teens to adults. Tickets cost $120 per person and include transportation to and from Chicago, and lodging. Robert Therrian will be in his hometown of St. Ignace Sunday, August 1, through Thursday, August 12, visiting his parents, Dick and Darlene Therrian.

Debbie Smith of Carp Lake visited her cousin, Pat Smith, and brother-in-law, Richard Smith, in St. Ignace last week.

I was sorry to hear of Debbie McCord’s accident in which she injured her foot. We hope the healing is a fast process.

There was a benefit spaghetti dinner Sunday, July 11, at the Moose Lodge on Mackinac Trail, to help with funeral expenses for Don McMillan.

Tyler Wiricox of Elkhart, Indiana, is stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard in St. Ignace, and says he enjoys his role as a volunteer snowmobile groomer here in winter.

Happy birthday to Bonnie Ledy, Sierra Metz, and Lauren Yoder July 15, Bob Nelson, who will celebrate his 90th birthday July 16, Barb Zimmerman July 19, Rachel Bercot, Jerry Arnold, Wesley Therrian, and Paul Krause July 21, and Carol Colegrove July 22.
