Brevort

What’s not to like about this weather? The lake has been calm for the most part this summer. Our guests at the lake house from Minnesota and Missouri enjoy the call of the loons against the soft lapping of the water against the shore. We’ve observed the position of the beach chairs: In the morning they face east, early afternoon they’re facing the lake, and when evening comes along, they’re looking to the west and the sunset.

Visitors at the home of Joe and Sharon Chalmers are Joe’s brother, Murray Chalmers, and grand-niece, Megan Chalmers, of Grass Lake. The group took the Pictured Rocks boat tour in Munising this past weekend.

Kirk Leibengood and his granddaughter of the Laingsburg area are vacationing at the Coffey cottage on Lake Michigan this week. Molly Lameroux and her mother-in-law, Bridget Lameroux, of Owosso had been at the cottage the weekend before.

Ann Dyer has been picking raspberries behind her house on Cut River Road. Raspberries are plentiful, as are blueberries.

Kurt and Tara Sanford and family of Kansas City, Missouri, have arrived at the Watson summer place for some vacation time. Tara is the daughter of John and Carol Faye Watson.

Kathy Reid has a red cardinal in her yard as well as an Eastern phoebe.

Friends and neighbors gathered at the home of Thora Shepard Thursday evening, July 22, for a crystal party. Vickie Burnett is the new product demonstrator. Congratulations on your new job, Vickie.

Dinner guests at the home of Joe Stewart and Lorie Quigley Sunday evening, July 25, were Anne Anderson, Tracy Movalson, Dave, and myself. It was a good evening, and the Detroit Tigers won.

Mary Carney spotted a barred owl near the Brevort Lake Campground Road this week.

While driving to Newberry a few days ago, Warren Cunningham saw a cougar cross the road in front of him, near where Borgstrom Road comes out at US-2.

Dave and I sat with a couple of travelers from Northern California, who just happened to be passing through and noticed the advertising for the St. Ignace Fish Feast Saturday, July 24, and decided to see what it was all about. They enjoyed it and loved the scenery as they ate their whitefish at the St. Ignace marina.

Jerri and Jim Rose met Jim’s sister, Loxie Lund, and her husband, Fred, for lunch in Brevort this past weekend. The Lunds were on their way home to Saginaw after a visit to Rhinelander, Wisconsin.

Anne Anderson of Bemidji, Minnesota, is here for some serious blueberry picking this week. Louise and Jim Hodgsdon and their sons, Brian and Tommy, of Egan, Minnesota, arrived Sunday evening, July 25, for vacation time. Lynne and Roger VanDok of Arvada, Colorado, are expected this week.

Shari Baron has been in Colorado with her daughter, Amy, and grandchildren this past week. They’re visiting all the natural tourist attractions, even Pikes’ Peak.

Get well wishes to Jenna Jewell of St. Louis, Michigan. Jenna is the granddaughter of Dot Glashaw.

Prayers for Pat and Jeff Cranson’s son, Sean Dush, who is dealing with health issues.

Bev Pennington of Irons and Matlacha, Florida, and Frank Taugner of St. James City, Florida, were front porch visitors this week, enjoying a bit of Dave’s smoked fish just out of the smoker. Bev and Frank also visited with Lorie Quigley and Joe Stewart at their home on Lake Michigan.

Family and friends gathered at the Watson cabin this week for John Watson’s 80th birthday. He will be 80 years old September 11 but the Michigan family celebrated with him early.

Pega and John Kennedy attended the wedding reception in Cheboygan of one of Pega’s first babies from her day-care center. Dan and Rozeda Sullivan were married in April but had their reception in July.

Sharon Smith celebrated her birthday at the home of Charlie and Gayle Lamoreaux. Family and friends attending were Pega and John Kennedy, Tom and Joyce Gustafson, Carol and John Watson, Sharon Chalmers, Dottie Glashaw, Norm and Nancy Smith, and Bea and John Zak.

John Kennedy’s brother, Jim, and wife, Dorothy, from Tennessee visited with Pega and John Tuesday.
