Jarvie To Continue in Supervisor Role After Loss of Thompson
Deputy township supervisor Margaret Jarvie will serve one more month in the supervisor's role, it was decided at a Tuesday, July 20, Rudyard Township board meeting.
Mrs. Jarvie is filling in owing to former supervisor Sharon Thompson's untimely passing, and will not seek a permanent appointment to the supervisor role. The board was in unanimous agreement that it is too soon to consider a replacement.
In the case where a township supervisor resigns abruptly or passes away, the township board has 45 days from the effective date to appoint someone to the vacated role. If this is not done, the governor will step in to appoint someone.
The township board is currently looking for letters of interest and will make a decision at their August 17 meeting, well within the allotment of 45 days.
“Qualifications are that candidates be a resident of the township,” said trustee Kathy Gaylor. “We would like to see people who have shown interest in the past. Sharon was a forward-looking, positive supervisor. We are looking for someone to continue that direction.”
The appointment may come from the community or from the current township board.
Letters may be sent to the Rudyard Township Hall, P.O. Box 277 Rudyard, MI 49780.
