Marian Lempie Koski, 77, of Spring Lake, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, surrounded by her family.
She was born December 19, 1932, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Victor and Lempie (nee Haappamakie) Maki.
She was graduated from Rudyard High School and attended Muskegon Business College.
She married George Edward Koski October 18, 1952, in Rudyard. They moved to Spring Lake in 1964.
Mrs. Koski had a varied work history, working as a secretary for several years, and working at a local greenhouse. She had her own cleaning business, and cared for elderly neighbors. She was known for her grace, soft-spoken voice, and her kindness. Mrs. Koski was particularly fond of dogs, and prior to her illness, was often seen out walking friends’ and neighbors’ dogs.
She enjoyed cooking and baking, enjoyed watching the Food Network, reading (especially cookbooks), gardening, and spending time outdoors. Her favorite times were spent cooking and dining out with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling to the Upper Peninsula often. Most of all, friends said, she was devoted to her family and enjoyed the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Koski is survived by her two daughters and their families, Deborah Weavers of Spring Lake and Deanna and Tom Winegar of Grand Haven; three sons and their families, William and Jane Koski of East Grand Rapids, David Koski of Comstock Park, Daniel Koski of Frisco, Colorado; seven grandchildren and their families, Tamilyn and Ross Boersen, Nicholas VanderSys, Noelle Weavers, Christopher Weavers, Alexandra Winegar, Andrew Koski, Emma Koski; two greatgrandchildren, Robert and Audrey Clark; a sister, Aune Hill of South Lyon; four sisters-in-law, Marion Bohannon of Cookeville, Tennessee, Patricia Mackie of Rudyard, Violetta Maki of North Fort Myers, Florida, Gay McCormick of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, who died December 4, 2005; four brothers: Frank, Ernest, Arvo, and Eino Maki, and a brother-in-law, Ernest Hill.
Services will be Thursday, August 19, at 4 p.m. at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with the Reverend Daniel Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service and following the service for a reception at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in St. Ignace.
