Roland Ringquist

Roland E. Ringquist, 85, a longtime Naubinway area resident, was a World War II veteran who went on to a career with GM and Chrysler. Mr. Ringquist died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Marquette General Hospital.

He was born May 14, 1925, in Detroit, to Per Eric and Hildur (nee Hedlund) Ringquist.

Mr. Ringquist attended Detroit Public Schools, was graduated from Denby High School in the class of 1943, and then entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II.

He was discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1946, and returned to Detroit, where he became employed at GM and Chrysler as a manager in cost accounting. He was employed at Chrysler, until his retirement in 1980, after more than 25 years of service.

He married Norma Wood June 15, 1951, in Detroit.

For many years he vacationed at the Hiawatha Club in Naubinway, moving there upon his retirement. He served in numerous positions, including treasurer and president. He was a board member of Engadine Consolidated Schools, did the books for several area churches, and was active in the Lions Club and the American Legion/VFW Post.

He often wintered in Alabama. Mr. Ringquist enjoyed golfing, yard work, doting on his grandchildren, and living on Lake Michigan.

He is survived by his wife, Norma; a son and his family, Eric of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter and her family, Laura and Randy Cadeau of L'Anse; three grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a sister, Susan Yakimovich of Cadillac.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth O’Green, and a brother, Neal Ringquist.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 31, at 2 p.m. at the Engadine United Methodist Church. A celebration of Mr. Ringquist’s life will be at 3 p.m. at the church with the Reverend Saundra Clark officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Garfield Township Cemetery in Naubinway.
