Sharon Thompson

Sharon Thompson Sharon Thompson Sharon Marie (nee Savoie) Thompson, 59, of Rudyard, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born June 13, 1951, in Sault Ste. Marie.

A lifelong Rudyard resident, she was a graduate of Rudyard High School and Lake Superior State University.

She married Andrew Lorn Thompson May 3, 1969, in Sault Ste. Marie. For 30 years, she worked for the United States Postal Service in various post offices in the area, most recently serving as the Rudyard Postmaster.

She volunteered for many causes in the Rudyard community, including SummerFest, Rudyard Parks and Recreation, Rudyard Ambulance Corps, the Chippewa County Fair, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and was a Rudyard High School class advisor. She was also a founding member and treasurer of the EUP Antique Equipment Association. She attended the Rudyard Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Rudyard Lions Club. She has served on the school board and at the time of her passing served as the Rudyard Township supervisor.

Mrs. Thompson enjoyed flower gardening, decorating cakes, crocheting, and cooking (there was always someone extra she had invited to dinner, friends said). She also had an extensive collection of angel figurines. Above all, she loved her family and spent every minute she could with her grandchildren and her great-grandchild.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, Andy; two daughters and their families, Tracy Schupp and Brenda and Douglas Fountain, both of Rudyard; one son and his family, Paul “Moose” and Esther Thompson of Rudyard; five grandchildren, Lee, Travis, Logan, Tayler, and Jillian; and a special great-granddaughter, Payten Marie. She is also survived by her parents, Paul Joseph and Marjorie Juanita (nee Hough) Savoie of Rudyard; two brothers and their families, Danny and Kim Savoie of Grand Haven and Robert and Dinah Savoie of Fibre; four sisters and their families, Sandra and Fred Smith of Rudyard, Paula Gaines of Marquette, Debra and Brian Ausdemore of Traverse City, and Peggy Nieboer of Holland, Michigan, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Thursday, July 15, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. Services were Friday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in North Rudyard Cemetery.
