Georgetta and Ted Gunthorp of LaGrange, Indiana, will return to St. Ignace for the McCall family reunion Saturday, August 14.

Gene Perry of St. Ignace will entertain folks at the marina Wednesday, August 4, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Petoskey Steel Drum Band will perform Thursday, August 5. The concerts are free of charge.

Marion Fenlon recently enjoyed the company of her nephew, Buzzy Berson, and wife, Linda, of Punta Gorda, Florida. Another nephew and his wife, Gary and Geri Smith, of Wisconsin also joined in with stories of the past.

“Jim Montcalm Memorial Day” will be Sunday, August 15, with an underwater treasure hunt. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the hunt begins at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $20 when purchased prior to August 15 and $25 the day of the hunt. There will be a free picnic and Kewadin Casino token coupons for ticket holders. The event is a fundraiser to benefit Straits Underwater Preserve maintenance and promotion. At right: With a loud cracking noise, this tree was split down the middle by lightning during the thunderstorm Tuesday evening, July 27, reported homeowner Ronald Dahms, who said the noise of the strike woke him up. Bark off the tree littered the ground in his backyard at 1001 South Huron Street, in St. Ignace. Rick and Gloria Weber of Brevort Lake Road are enjoying the company of their daughter and sonin law, Sara and Bill Archard, and their baby son, Parker Milton Archard, who are visiting from Bullfrog, Utah. Sara and Bill are both park rangers.

I had a nice visit with Fred and Connie Sweet at Fort de Buade Museum. Connie, a former resident of St. Ignace, has returned to town to manage the museum.
