Woman Hurt, Robbed on Mackinac Trail

A 39-year-old woman from St. Helen was attacked and robbed on Mackinac Trail in St. Ignace Township Tuesday, July 27, between 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The woman was walking north from Kewadin Casino when a black or dark colored van pulled alongside her. A suspect in the back of the van grabbed and assaulted her and then stole more than $100 from her before leaving northbound from the scene. The woman attempted to flag down two passing vehicles after the attack, but they did not stop. She was then able to attract the attention of a motorist on M-123 near I-75, who then called 9-1-1. She was taken to Mackinac Straits Health System, where she was treated and released. Information about the extent and nature of her injuries is not being released by the police, as withholding it will aid in their investigation, they said.

The van was occupied by three white males, according to Michigan State Police. The driver has short, sandy blond hair, the front seat passenger wore a hat, and the rear passenger had black or dark collarlength hair over his ears, with no bangs.

The Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post is asking the drivers of the two vehicles that did not stop to come forward, as they may have additional information.

Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Investigators can be reached at the St. Ignace State Police Post at 643-7582 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 465-7867.
