Engadine-Gould City
A group in Newton Township (Gould City) are in the process of organizing a historical society to preserve the history of our area. Several informal meetings have been held, and photographs and memories were shared. The group will host a fundraiser and membership drive Sunday, September 19, at 2 p.m. at Newton Township Hall in Gould City. Desserts and beverages will be served for a donation. Area residents are invited to attend and bring photographs and other memorabilia to share. A scanner/printer will be available to copy items of interest. The Tahqua Trail Run will be Friday, August 13, and Saturday, August 14, at 8 a.m. at the Tahquamenon Falls State Park, sponsored by Great Lakes Endurance. Distances include 25K and 10K, both finishing at the Upper Falls. A 2K youth race will take place Friday. Prior registration is required. All ages are welcome to register. The 29th Annual Grand Marais Music and Arts Festival will be Friday, August 13, through Sunday, August 15, in Grand Marais.
There will be music by local talent Sarah Bomber and Leah Blanchard Saturday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Chamberlin's Ole Forest Inn in Curtis. Sarah Bomber will also provide harp music there Sunday, August 22. Everyone is welcome.
There will be a Farmers Market Saturday, August 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Mill Pond Park Pavilion on M-117 in Engadine.
Music in the Park, featuring "Evergreen 7," will be Wednesday, August 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Curtis Park. The event is sponsored by Erickson Center for the Arts.
Friday, August 20, through Sunday, August 22, are dates for the Wild Blueberry Festival at the Whitefish Township Community Center in Paradise. There will be an art fair, live entertainment, local food, and informative programs.
Saturday, August 21, the U.P Fly-In for the Wounded Soldiers Program will be at the Luce County Airport on M-28 in Newberry. The program supports veterans and Camp Warrior, a local hunting camp for disabled veterans. For more information, call Jay at (906) 293-2926 or (906) 291-0570.
