Les Cheneaux
The Les Cheneaux Antique Wooden Boat Show and the Festival of Arts are on the schedule for this weekend. This is a big weekend for everyone. Drive carefully and watch the traffic, especially on the busy corner of M-129 and M-l34 in Cedarville.
Kim (nee Izzard) Gaye, the activities director at Cedar Cove Assisted Living facility in Cedarville, has had a book published entitled “Hiding an Elephant.” The book was published by Tate Publishing and it will be released nationally Tuesday, August 17. Kim’s book is about her struggle with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She was diagnosed in her mid-30s, and had a difficult time finding material on the subject as it pertains to adults. After years of research, she wrote a book combining information about adult ADHD with personal stories describing how her life has been affected. Kim’s book is expected to be available locally this weekend and she will be signing books at the Antique Wooden Boat Show at the Lions Club breakfast when, with each book sold, she will donate $1 to the Lions Club.

The Les Cheneaux Performing Arts presentation of “101 Dalmations” made for a delightful evening for those who attended and watched all of those young people perform. The barking puppies in their white and black-spotted costumes, the chorus in their black with white-spotted costumes, the haughty character of Cruella, and all of the other characters really did a great job for the audience. Lisa Dunn and her hard-working crew have offered another A-plus performance for the community.
There was a brass band quintet in Cedarville last week, whose members came from Duluth, Minnesota, and Superior, Wisconsin. While here, as guests of Jim and Madge Berryhill of Hill Island, they performed at First Union Church. Many people enjoyed their music during their visit in Cedarville, as they toured the island channels in a pontoon boat, making music all the way. On their island tour, they stopped for a short concert at the Cedarville waterfront and another in the evening in Hessel Bay. Their music was a treat for all who heard them.
Boy Scout Troop 140 of Cedarville has just returned from the 100th anniversary celebration of the National Boy Scouts Jamboree in Bowling Green, Virginia. Six scouts with four leaders went on this trip, leaving Cedarville Saturday, July 24, and returning Sunday, August 1. During their journey, two days were spent in Washington, D.C., touring the sites of that city, two days at the jamboree, and one day touring the historic town of Jamestown. Part of the money for this trip was raised by selling Christmas wreaths last December, and some money was raised from the games during the Fourth of July celebration.
Elda Nye of Hessel was pleased to see an indigo bunting at her bird feeder last week. We’ve noticed several of our neighborhood swans with young ones following along.
