New ATV Ordinance Is a Bad Idea for City

To the Editor:

The new ordinance to allow ATVs on the streets of St. Ignace is a bad idea in the making. There is no reason to have these side-by-sides on the roads - none. If you need to go somewhere, take your passenger vehicle; that's what it's made for. I live in the community of Brevort and these slow moving vehicles are a hazard and a nuisance. They are on every road, day and night. They are on roads where speeds are generally higher, including the highway, and it is just a matter of time before an accident happens.

And city employees, think about this: A lot of gravel will end up in roadways and yards because of the roadside traffic, creating citizen complaints, and possibly creating hazardous road conditions in areas. This will greatly increase road maintenance to the city. Our yard in Brevort, where it borders the road, is forever full of gravel and is impossible to remove. Scrap this plan now!
