The beaches have been popular as temperatures in the 80s with high humidity were evident last week.

Brian and Eve Baumguard of Lansing visited the St. Ignace area recently, where they enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and scenery.

Mark Vonderwerth and I recently shared memories of the annual fair at Allenville, in which his motherin law, LaVerne Shimkovitz, was very active.

Tom and Barbara Alkire hosted the Alkire family reunion Saturday, August 7, at their home on Boulevard Drive, with 30 people in attendance. They included Vern and Pat Alkire with children and grandchildren of Houghton, Brenda and Paul Nelson of California, Mary Alkire with daughter and grandchild, Mark Alkire, Sanky Rickley, Howard Alkire, and Travis Alkire, all of St. Ignace and Nathan Alkire. Everyone had a great time.

Volunteers are always appreciated.

Arletta Pope had a 60th surprise birthday party in Paradise Thursday, August 5. Attending the party were Bill and Angie Fraser with their daughters, Jillian and Jayde, Kellie Langley, Jake and Jordan of Traverse City, and Tom and Stephanie Pope of Omaha.

Bud and Betty Closs of Grand Haven camped in their hometown of St. Ignace for a few days. They will return in a few weeks for the memorial service for sister Diane Closs.

David and Fidele Potter, lifetime St. Ignace residents, are in a long term care facility in Grand Haven. Fidele’s birthday was August 17 and David will celebrate his birthday August 21.

The Eastern Upper Peninsula Special Olympics received a dona- tion of $1,226 from the St. Ignace Knights of Columbus Monday, August 9. The money was raised from the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll drive. Bob Nelson reports his sisterin law, Marian Nelson, is now receiving care in Sault Ste. Marie and will soon be transfered to Mackinac Straits Health System. Ms. Nelson recently experienced a fall at her home, breaking her wrist.

She is hoping to be out driving soon and being able to visit her dear friends. Ms. Pelon is spry at 95 years old.

Happiness is receiving a piece of art from a young child such as a neighbor, Riley Kita.
