Bernetta Soeltner
Bernetta Soeltner, 93, of Moran, died Thursday evening, August 19, 2010, at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care in St. Ignace.
She was born December 10, 1916, in Sault Ste. Marie to Herbert and Amelda (nee Garrett) Burton.
She married Lawrence Soeltner January 2, 1933, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moran.
They made their home in Moran all their lives. She worked for Mackinac Straits Hospital in the dietary department for more than 13 years. She also cooked for the senior citizens in Moran for more than 12 years, and cooked for all of the priests at the church in Moran until it was combined with the St. Ignatius parish. She cared for the altar linens for the church for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Soeltner was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 1484 in St. Ignace. She was active with dinners there.
She is survived by a son and his family, Tom and Patsy Soeltner of Trout Lake; two daughters and their families, Linda and Chuck Orr of Moran and Joan and LeRoy Schmidt of Hazelwood, Missouri; 21 grandchildren, and many greatgrandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-greatgrandchildren; in fact, there are 134 direct descendants of Mrs. Soeltner.
Mr. Soeltner died February 10, 1979. In addition to her husband, she was preceeded in death by a son, Richard, in 1950; a daughter, Jean Sheber, in 2003, and four grandchildren, Mary Orr, John Sheber, Laurie Schmidt, and Jeff Sheber.
Mass of Christian burial was Monday, August 23, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Father Allen Mott, former priest in St. Ignace and Moran, assisted by Deacon Don Olmstead officiating. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery next to her husband. A Women of the Moose memorial service was held Sunday evening, August 22, as were parish prayers.
Pallbearers were her grandsons. Dodson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
